David Schafer has been performing under the moniker of DSE since 2010. His work is concerned with the structures, translation, and intelligibility of language and architecture. David Schafer (DSE) has performed at a range of venues including galleries, bookstores, clubs, non-profits, museums, and garages including; Human Resources, David Kordansky Gallery, Samuel Freeman Gallery, Control Room, La Cita, L.A.C.E., Printed Matter, Silent Barn, Roulette, Invisible Dog, The Whitney Museum of Art, and Studio10. Schafer’s sound work has been included in curated radio programs in Lisbon, Paris, Murcia, and Berlin.

DSE is a platform for the production and dissemination of electronic noise, noise actions, and processed recordings. Utilizing analogue and digital source material and processing techniques, DSE emphasizes the destabilizing of structural authority and intelligibility of language including its political, sonic, and spatial orientation. Noise-Action refers to the noise performance as a form of political engagement: the process of listening, gathering in a space, the production of the sonic qualities themselves, and the entire social context as a complex listening and performing encounter; noise as a politically motivated effort and course of action.
